The Sea Harrier is one of the most unique aircraft in the world, thanks to its ability to take off and land vertically. No need for long runways meaning it could land ad-hoc in any large open space.
The FRS1 Sea Harrier was introduced to the Royal Navy in 1978, and used in a number of high-profile campaigns, the most common of which was the 1982 Falklands War where it shot down 20 enemy aircraft during the conflict with one loss to enemy fire. They were also used to launch ground attacks. Sadly the Royal Navy retired this aircraft in 2006 but it’s still in active service for the Indian Navy.
Now you can build your own 1:48 scale replica of the fantastic BAE aeroplane thanks to Airfix.
