| It begins at the end of the Second Age of Mankind, Sauron, the Deceiver, was defeated by the Last Alliance between Men and Elves. Though defeated, the Dark Lord could not so easily be destroyed. As long as the Ring of Power was allowed to exist, Sauron would return. So it is that, accompanied by friends and allies, Frodo Baggins of the Shire must embark upon the most perilous task faced by the Free Peoples of Middle-earth - to take the One Ring to the land of Mordor and there, cast it into the Cracks of Doom. The Two Towers continues the quest to destroy the Dark Lord's Ring of Power. Though the Fellowship has come to an end, its members scattered far and wide, each remain true to their companions and the freedom of Middle-earth. While Frodo and Sam must make their way to the Black Gate of Mordor alone, Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli pursue Saruman's Uruk-hai across the plains of Rohan, hoping to rescue Merry and Pippin. "I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. The day will come when the courage of men fails - when we forsake our friends and breach all bonds of fellowship - but it is not this day! This day we fight!" Finding themselves at the Golden Hall of Edoras, new alliances are forged with King Théoden, Lord of the Riddermark, as open war comes to Middle-earth, culminating in the siege of Helm's Deep. As Frodo and Sam undertake the most dangerous part of their journey, through the blighted land of Mordor to the cracks of Mount Doom, the Men of Gondor must weather a great peril of their own as Sauron unleashes the might of his armies of Orcs, Easterlings and Haradrim against the Free Peoples of the West. |
