Tron Legacy Action Figures and Vehicles

This toyline, distributed by Spinmaster, is based on the science fiction film Tron which was originally screened back in 1982. Following the release of the sequel film Tron Legacy in December 2010 this range of action figures and vehicles was released including the Tron Light Cycles and Light Runners (2 seater versions of Light cycles) which are both seen in the films. These look like motorbikes but leave a trail of light behind them and are used in gaming battles during the films - players try to ride the fastest but must avoid opponents light trails otherwise they will be eliminated.

The story starts with a character called Kevin Flynn (played by Jeff Bridges) who is a computer programmer as he tries to write software to enable him to hack into the mainframe computer of a company called Encom. He is not doing this for any bad reason – he merely wishes to try and see if Ed Dillinger, a high ranking colleague, stole some of his software in order to gain promotion through ill gotten deeds. The trouble is Kevin is blocked by the mainframe’s master control program (MCP). Aided by other employees, one of which is called Alan Bradley, Kevin manages to convince Alan to allow him to enter Encom and as a result he will create greater security access for Alan’s program called Tron. Somehow this leads to Flynn being transported into the digital system himself to form an allegiance with Tron to try to defeat the MCP. Tron and Flynn escape into the mainframe during a Light Cycle game.

Tron Legacy follows up on this story. After defeating the MCP Flynn is now the CEO of Encom but suddenly disappears. We now see the introduction of the character of his son, Sam Flynn, some 20 years later. Sam is a controlling shareholder of Encom following his father’s disappearance but has no interest in the company. Urged by Bradley to follow up on a mysterious happening in his dad’s old game arcade he ends up transported into the virtual world called The Grid. Here he is captured and made to game battle against a character called Rinzler and eventually becomes reunited with his father who explains that as he had tried to make the program more perfect, using a digital copy of his friend Bradley called CLU, he became trapped inside as his portal to real life inadvertently closed. CLU ended up betraying Flynn so they need to somehow get back to the real world to delete CLU. After many hurdles they end back up at the portal but CLU is also there blocking their way. In order to save Sam Flynn sacrifices himself however somehow becomes morphed with CLU causing a massive explosion ending both of their lives. The film ends with Sam back in the real world taking an active role in Encom and riding happily off into the sunset.
