Skaledale had at one time a castle built by the Norman Baron, Duke de Skalais who was given the lands around what is now known as Skaledale by William the Conqueror in 1068. Imposing at one time but now sadly just ruins!
Skaledale, a place somewhere not far from elsewhere! A town or village which is full of life and timeless. Skaledale is always changing just like any other place. There are churches of various denominations, shops, pubs, schools and houses of all shapes and sizes.
This year Skaledale has been connected to the mains! For the first time a whole gas production plant is available complete with Gasholder, Retort House and offices all of which can be contained in a walled enclosure.
