Dora The Explorer is seven years old and was created as an animated television series in 1999 by Chris Gifford, Valkerie Wash and Eric Weiner. Those of you who are interested in linguistics may be interested to know that her name was taken from the Spanish word, Exploradora, which means female explorer.
Each episode sees Dora embarking on a quest. Dora is always ready to help someone who is in trouble or do a good deed for someone. With the help of the children at home, as she always asks for their help in gathering information and deciding what is important, Dora is able to solve any problem or complete the task that has been set for her. The show encourages viewers to use logic and reasoning to help Dora in solving the clues that she has found. |

Dora’s love of exploring appears to have been passed through her family. Her grandmother had been an explorer herself when she was Dora’s age. Dora can always find a way out of any trouble that she or her friends come across. Her best friend and enthusiastic helper is Boots the Monkey, so called because of his red boots, which are the only thing that he wears. Dora always carries her backpack with her. It was a present from her parents and always seems to contain whatever Dora needs, including items that are so big that they couldn’t possibly have fit inside it. It is a magic satchel that would certainly rival Mary Poppin’s carpetbag! |
