Would you believe that the story of Peter Rabbit is over 100 years old?! It all started on 4th September 1893 in a letter to a boy who was ill, Beatrix Potter didn't know what to write to him so instead she told him a story. A story of four rabbits Cottontail, Mopsy, Flopsy and Peter this letter later became one of the most famous letters ever written. Beatrix then pursued a career in Mycology, but she found no one would take her seriously, she later gave that up and started writing. She published her first book herself, 'The Tale of Peter Rabbit' this was later reprinted in 1902 by Fredrick Warne and Co a publishing firm. She released her second book later that year, 'The Tailor of Gloucester' Many of her books were based on Scotland and the Lake District where she used to spend three months every summer with her parents as a child. |
