The pinto horse has a coat colour that consists of patches of white and another colour, and can be any breed. In the 17th Century in Europe, these coloured and spotted horses were very fashionable and large numbers were bred. Although, when the fad ended, large numbers of these unsellable horses were shipped to the Americas. Some to be sold and others were turned loose to run wild. They became popular among Native Americans, who started to breed them specifically for the United States. They now have the largest number of pinto horses in the world.
