Passat

Revell Vessels - Passat - In 1911, following in the P-Line tradition, Blohm & Voss in Hamburg built two four-masted barks that went into Service with the Ferdinand Laeisz shipping line as the PASSAT and the PEKING. On Christmas Eve 1911 the Passat set sail on her first sea voyage to Chile and rounded the fearsome Cape Horn nine times. After World War I the Passat went into French ownership and was bought back by FL in 1921. Then in 1932 the Passat was sold to the Finnish Erikson shipping company. In 1951 the ship returned to German ownership. The Schliewen shipping company wished to use her as a cargo-carrying training ship and in the subsequent refit installed a 1000 hp auxiliary engine. After the tragic sinking of the PAMIR in 1957 the cargo-carrying sail-training ships were decommissioned, as in that same year the Passat found herself in the same unfortunate position - it was only with difficulty that a capsize was prevented. From 1960 to 1965 the Passat served as a stationary training ship with the Schleswig-Holstein sail-training school. The new owner was the city of Lübeck. The Passat can still be seen today as a museum sailing ship. Colors: 37 85 87 89 301 302 314 330
