The Hippopotamus, known as the Hippo to most, is a generally very large mammal native to Africa.
Despite their apparent similarity to Pigs and Rhinos, they actually are most closely related to whales, sharing a 60 million year old common ancestor, this creature then divereged into two different mammals, one of which remained in the ocean, while the other developed into a creature capable of living on land.
Hippos are considered semi-aquatic due to the fact that they can live on land but need to remain cool and hydrated in the hot African climate, hence the fact they usually reside in rivers.
The cows usually live in large groups up to 30 strong, dominated by one bull who constantly faces opposition from other males wanting to take his territory.
