Intermediate Idea Book for Cuisenaire Rods by Learning Resources from £10.40
Intermediate Idea Book for Cuisenaire Rods. These informative Teacher Resource Manuals are a great way to master the variety of uses of Cuisenaire® Rods. Each 120-page manual includes worksheets, blackline masters, daily lesson plans and activities with clear outlines for the appropriate levels. LER 7538 includes basic numbers and operations, geometry, data probability and measurement. LER 7537 expands the topics covered in the primary book along with exploring algebra. Age Group 8 - 10.
The Intermediate Idea Book for Cuisenaire® Rods consists of 85 Learning Experiences and 22 Worksheet Masters. The book is divided into five sections related to the content standards for grades 3–5 published in the 2000 National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM): Numbers and Operations, Algebra, Geometry, Measurement, Data Analysis and Probability. Even though these five sections have separate designations as indicated in the Table of Contents, there is a great deal of integration of topics. The five NCTM process standards (Problem Solving, Reasoning and Proof, Communications, Connections, and Representations) are fully embedded into the content standards, and are indicated at the bottom of each Learning Experience in the section entitled, "Underlying Mathematics Related to NCTM Standards." The Underlying Mathematics lists have also been consolidated and summarized on pages 5 through 7 as an overview of both content and process.
Each Learning Experience is on a separate page and is presented in a consistent format for ease in use. The format includes a descriptive title, the appropriate grade level(s), the materials needed for the Learning Experience, suggested settings for classroom implementation, details for level adaptations, and the underlying mathematical concepts related to the Learning Experience. There are also Math Journal Entries included on many pages that can be used as writing prompts or homework extensions of the Learning Experiences. Cuisenaire Rods can be introduced at any of the grade levels, and many of the activities can be used beyond Grade 5. All of the Learning Experiences use Cuisenaire Rods, and many of them require 1-cm graph paper, for which a Master is provided on page 9. By framing 1-cm graph paper in an 8" x 11" plastic picture frame with a raised edge, children can easily line up rods or frame their finished designs.
