The 1970's saw the national institution of Dr Who grow up, with adults outnumbering children in the continually climbing audience figures. In January 1970 the series returned in full colour and advances in technology had produced more believable monsters. By the 1980's Dr Who was the longest running science fiction TV series in the world.
