Collectors Edition Slinky by Flair from £8.36
This toy was invented over 60 years ago by Richard James and was demonstrated at a department store in Philadelphia in November 1945. It proved to be an instant hit selling 400 in 90 minutes. Slinky has seen other uses over the years as a classroom teaching aid, as radio antennae during the war and in experiments at NASA.
Slinky is great fun and every home should have one. Just stand it at the top of the stairs and give it a gentle push and watch as it walks down the stairs. Oh dear, no good if you live in a bungalow, you will have to try it out on a slope somewhere or just move it from hand to hand. It makes a slinky sound as it moves.
