TOMY's group mission is fully endorsed by TOMY Europe. TOMY Europe supports the membership criteria for the British Toy and Hobby Association (BTHA) in conjunction with common standards expressed by the various European Toy Trade Federations.
We are totally committed to ensuring that TOMY Europe, through defined policies and practices encompassed within a published corporate social responsibility programme, establishes exemplary corporate governance and standards for our shareholders, customers, consumers, employees, the community and the environment.
These policies not only reflect external requirements but also those imposed by ourselves for best practices and ensure we make to most positive impact to the social environment in which we operate.

Our Founding Philosophy is a fundamental and permanent component of the TOMY Group which has served us well.

TOMY France
TOMY France is an important subsidiary of the TOMY organisation. Its effectively share the TOMY beliefs and values and importantly, the way TOMY does business. TOMY France is a member of the French federation (FJP). The FJP has an official affiliation to the government, European community organisations, customs, consumers associations, employers, trade unions and the media. The FJP is also an active member of TIE and ICTI.

TOMY Germany
TOMY Germany is the most recent subsidiary to the TOMY organisation opened in July 2005. It also shares TOMY beliefs, values and importantly the way TOMY does business. The administration and financial responsibilities are all managed centrally by TOMY Europe through the UK office, whilst sales and marketing are provided locally.

TOMY corporate governance policy is second to none and we aim to excel in every possible way. In being a member of the British Toy & Hobby Association, TOMY "Upholds the principles that no underage, forced, or prison labour should be employed; that no one is denied a job because of gender, ethnic origin, religion, affiliation or association, and the factories comply with laws protecting the environment."

TOMY is proud to be a part of the ICTI CARE process which is an initiative of the International Council Toy Industries. The ICTI CARE process is an ethical manufacturing program with the purpose of ensuring fair labour treatment and safe working conditions.

THE TOMY CODE

Child Labour
The manufacturing company shall not hire at age younger than 15 (where local law allows 14, ILO C138 will apply). If the law states a higher age or if the age of completing compulsory education is higher than 15, this age will apply.
Forced Labour
The manufacturing company shall maintain employment on a voluntary basis. They shall not use any forced, bonded or prison labour or labour which involves physical or mental abuse, or being dominated or restrained by force, authority or threats.
Discrimination
The manufacturing company shall not discriminate in its hiring practices or in any other condition of work on the basis of race, caste, nationality, religion, age, disability, gender, marital status, pregnancy, sexual orientation, union membership or political affiliation.
Disciplinary Practice & Harassment
The manufacturing company shall treat each employee with dignity and respect and will not use corporal punishment, threats of violence or other forms of physical, mental, sexual or verbal harassment or abuse.
Association
The manufacturing company shall respect the rights of employees to associate, organise and bargain collectively in a lawful and peaceful manner, without penalty and interference.
Working Hours
The manufacturing company shall maintain working hours, including overtime work in compliance with local standards and applicable national laws.
Compensation
The manufacturing company shall compensate their employees by providing wages and benefits in compliance with local standards and applicable national laws. Employees shall be compensated for overtime work.
Health & Safety
The manufacturing company shall provide employees with a safe and healthy working environment in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
Environmental Concerns
The manufacturing company shall comply with all applicable environmental laws and regulations.
Legal Compliance
The manufacturing company shall comply with all applicable national laws in the manufacture of TOMY product's.
Subcontracting
The manufacturing company shall fully disclose all facts and circumstances concerning production and use of sub-contractors. They shall evaluate their own facilities as well as those of their sub-contractors and demonstrate their adherence to the TOMY Code of Conduct.
Monitoring
The manufacturing company shall authorise TOMY and its designated agents (including third parties) to engage in monitoring activities to confirm compliance with this code of conduct, including unannounced on-site inspections of manufacturing facilities and dormitories, reviews of books and records relating to employment matters; and private interviews with employees, The manufacturing company shall maintain, on site, all documentation that may be needed to demonstrate compliance with this Code of Conduct.
Publication
The manufacturing company shall take appropriate steps to ensure that the provisions of this Code of Conduct are communicated to all employees.

Product Integrity

TOMY is proud of its products. Quality and safety is fundamental to our brand. All our products meet and often exceed global standards and directives for the safety of toys and childcare products. During product development we also consider possible long term foreseeable use and abuse of our toys and this means that our own corporate standards for safety and quality are much higher than that legally required. At every stage the following is taken into consideration:

  • Tomy's own higher quality standards
  • Functional requirements
  • Specific abuse requirements
  • Life testing

Educational Value of TOMY Toys

Tomy is proud of the success of its products and whilst the marketing of its toys is based upon product quality, value and hours of play, many TOMY products encourage the natural development of a child by learning through play.

Advertising to Children and Marketing of Toys

Marketing is important for any business and is another medium through which integrity is ensured. TOMY takes great care to ensure that it advertises product features and benefits in an exciting but realistic fashion that does not disappoint or offend consumers in any way.

Tomy

The Broadcast Advertising Clearance Centre (BACC)

The Broadcast Advertising clearance centre is a specialist body responsible for the pre-transmission examination and clearance of television advertisements. All advertisements being transmitted as a national television campaign on UK terrestrial and satellite channels should be submitted to the BACC for approval. The notes of guidance produced by the BACC contain a section that specifically addresses the issues relation to advertising to children. TOMY advertisements are given to the BACC to ensure that their is suitable for its audience.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA)

The advertising standards authority regulates the content of advertisements, sales promotions and direct marketing in the UK, making sure standards are kept high by applying the advertising codes, The main principles of the advertising codes are that adverts should not mislead, cause harm, or offend. TOMY supports the advertising regulatory system and complies with the ruling of the Advertising Standards Authority.

Employee Health & Safety

"We will ensure, as far as it is responsibly practical, the health, safety and welfare at work of our employees."

TOMY takes a very strong position on the health and safety of its employees; It is the policy of the company to provide this for all its employees and it recognises as well as accepts its responsibility in providing adequate safety measures and the prevention of accidents.

Fire & Safety

TOMY has an active Risk assessment programme that it has been running for a number of years both within the UK and in the European locations, This provides the company with a regular update of how well the health and safety management is being implemented. An area that falls under this category is fire and Safety.

Environmental Policy

TOMY is committed to minimising the impact of manufacturing by:

  • Providing recycling points for paper and cardboard
  • Provision for glass and metal recycling at usage points
  • Ensuring electrical power-down at close of business both lights and machinery

Environmental Legislation

TOMY is following the European regulations in order to achieve environmental improvement. With regard to the WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) regulations. TOMY encourage re-cycling and proper disposal of electrical equipment. TOMY remain on target to ensure that all products meet the requirements of the RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) European Directive. Furthermore, TOMY considers the products as a whole (not just electrical parts) and restricts heavy metals in the entirety of those electronic products.

Use of Chemicals in Products

Where chemicals have been banned or are removed, TOMY have monitoring systems in place to ensure this is complied with. Examples are cadmium, contents of plastics, lead and cadmium in batteries, mercury and chromium in packaging.

Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation & Restriction of Chemicals (REACH)

TOMY is a member of the REACH programme. The main aims are to:

  • Improve the protection of human health and environment
  • Maintain and enhance the competitiveness of the EU chemicals industry
  • Prevent the fragmentation of the internal market
  • Increase transparency
  • Integrate with international efforts
  • Promote non-animal testing
  • Comply with EU international obligations under the WTO

As part of the organisation, TOMY manufacturers and importers are required to gather information on the properties of their raw materials, with this information TOMY can manage chemicals carefully.

Community Involvement

TOMY sets exceptionally high standards for itself, its manufacturers and its suppliers. At the same time TOMY also plays an active part in giving back to its surrounding communities. We understand and appreciate the importance of making a contribution to our society and see ourselves as being active members of our community and the following principles guide our approach:

  • We seek to sponsor as many our local and national causes as we can, especially those associated with children

  • We allow colleagues to pick organisations for us to support and do this through a number of fundraising events and activities

  • We strive to be a good neighbour in any area where we practice business

  • We aim to recruit our workforce locally and from the communities that we serve
