Pearls: Since early days of the Raj in India, pearls were thought to have stress-relieving qualities, which may account for why so many of them were worn at once.

CARE OF KLESHNA (stealer of hearts) jewellery.

In order to preserve its longevity and lustre Kleshna thought you may like a few tips on how to care for it.

The first rule of 'guardianship' is to treat it with 'tender loving care' (TLC) it has been made from pearls, semi precious stones and exotic shells using traditional methods and products. Some are strung on the finest French silk, which has been heavily beeswaxed for its durability, and others are created on finely twisted steel coated in aculon for strength

All of our pieces are special 'one offs' and many have said before us "pearls and jewellery should be the last thing you put on before you leave home, and the first thing you take off when you return".

We caution you about getting hairspray or perfume on your pearls as their natural enemies are acids and many perfumes and hairsprays can contain these acids which will take away the lustre of your jewellery. As sturdy as the form of a pearl seems their crystalline construction and lustrous surface are in many cases more fragile than those of other gems as they are alkaline.

Please also be mindful that the shells used in these products, whilst in most cases are fairly well built by nature to withstand the rigorous currents of the sea, remember that the sea supports them with water, therefore if dropped they may well break. Furthermore whilst we endeavour to design with more robust varieties, some of the prettiest shells can be of a more delicate nature.

It is advisable to have your jewellery restrung regularly either annually or biannually dependent on how tough you are on it and how regularly it is worn.

When not being worn, we suggest that you keep your jewellery wrapped up in the silk it came in for protection.

KLESHNA CLEANING.

We do not recommend that apart from the silver clasp the rest of the necklace is cleansed too often, just keep it dust free and rub it with a soft cotton cloth or towel.

Should you wish to clean your necklace clasp we would recommend using special jewellery cleaner on the silver/ silver gilt clasp. If you do spill anything on your jewellery then a gentle wash in luke warm soapy water using either hair shampoo or a fine liquid handwash product, followed by a thorough but gentle rinse in clean water is appropriate. However, please ensure that any shells with complex chambers in them are hung upside down to enable them to drain.
