Figs (or Fiscus) are the fruit of a tree which although native to the Med is able to grow quite well in warmer parts of the UK. It has large, green leaves and purple succulent edible fruits. These elements feature on the Emma Bridgewater Figs pottery design as well as brown stalks making a glamorous pattern particularly suited for summertime and eating outdoors. No flower is included as the Fig does not have any external flowers – the flowers actually bloom inside the fruit. The fig is a well known ancient fruit with many symbolic meanings and its leaf is used often in works of art as a modesty shield, often added after the work was completed to save any blushes!
Emma Bridgewater’s Olives range coordinates beautifully with Figs. This design is a true classic and as the olive is also a well know Mediterranean fruit it reminds you of warm summer days and evenings. Its evergreen leaves, once used to crown victors, feature on this pattern along with plump black, purple olive fruits ripe for picking.
