Emma Bridgewater Classics

On this page you will find some of Emma Bridgewater’s old designs and reintroduced patterns which they group together and call Classics. If you have a favourite set with a broken piece then don’t delay and replace today! Or if you missed out the first time around then incorporate some missing pieces into your collection. Perfect for keeping the fan base happy and new collectors will of course love these classic patterns including Blue Hen, Figs and Olives.

Emma Bridgewater’s Blue Hen is an older pattern one of which that was most collected. The design has been updated slightly so those keen collectors amongst you will be able to spot the small differences. This blue and cream set is very apt for kitchens and at breakfast time – the Blue Hen plate is perfect to serve your eggs sunny side up and the Blue Hen Cereal Bowl is a very useful breakfast piece too. Its traditional design features hand sponged hens and cockerels in a classic deep blue, the plates and bowls also feature a single cockerel in the middle and blue rims to the edges.

Emma Bridgewater’s Figs and Olives are separate designs although the colourings are perfectly matched against each other which means that they make ideal dining partners. Both designs feature Mediterranean greens and bluey purples. Like a water colour painting the hand applied sponge design is expertly applied so delicately.

Figs (or Fiscus) are the fruit of a tree which although native to the Med is able to grow quite well in warmer parts of the UK. It has large, green leaves and purple succulent edible fruits. These elements feature on the Emma Bridgewater Figs pottery design as well as brown stalks making a glamorous pattern particularly suited for summertime and eating outdoors. No flower is included as the Fig does not have any external flowers – the flowers actually bloom inside the fruit. The fig is a well known ancient fruit with many symbolic meanings and its leaf is used often in works of art as a modesty shield, often added after the work was completed to save any blushes!

Emma Bridgewater’s Olives range coordinates beautifully with Figs. This design is a true classic and as the olive is also a well know Mediterranean fruit it reminds you of warm summer days and evenings. Its evergreen leaves, once used to crown victors, feature on this pattern along with plump black, purple olive fruits ripe for picking.

Imagine a Salad Nicoise with lettuce, tomato, potatoes, green beans, tuna, hard boiled eggs and olives glistening in olive oil vinaigrette served in the Olives pasta bowl used as a Salad Bowl. Or try serving your salad dressing in the Olives half pint Jug for a very stylish informal dinner party.
