| This range is brand new for 2011 from Emma Bridgewater and is called Sampler. When you look at the sponged design the reason for this pattern’s chosen name will become obvious. Imagine a piece of historic needlework in cross stitch or tapestry, perhaps from the 19th century Victorian times and you will see some similarities. It is an intricate design with plenty of hearts, flowers motifs and petals all in the brightest pinks and deep reds making for a very cheery design in rich, vibrant colours. Some pieces also have flowing lines and swags which come from the ‘L’ in Love which is written in letters on the teapot, large mug and smaller Plate. In total the Sampler design is available in 8 key pieces, a Baby and ½ Pint Mug, 10 ½ inch Plate with border design and 8 ½ inch plate with full design all over the plate, Teapot and ½ Pint Jug for milk and two bowls including the French bowl shape and Pasta Bowl shape. Emma Bridgewater’s source of inspiration comes from some of her earliest designs (Doily Hearts studio design for instance) and also her own collection of Victorian pottery. Inspiration must also come from the age old hobby for girls and women where cross stitch samplers were produced after much painstaking work and often included verse and alphabets. They were greatly used as part of a girl’s education to practice stitches or to demonstrate skill, and also sometimes used to celebrate key events such as new births. |
