Description:In the 18th and 19th century Shell Edged plates were produced with their distinctive look which was to make them so desirable with middle class families in the UK, Europe and America. The Staffordshire pottery trade centred on the city of Stoke-on-Trent which came to be known as the city of five towns, all of the towns were involved with pottery manufacture and duly called ‘the potteries’ eventually leading to their ceramics being sold all over the world with the Shell Edge being one of the most popular.
