The Large Decorated Summer Plate is based on the original Hartley Greens pattern book, earthenware, glazed pale cream, this is commonly described as Creamware, Pearlware, Leedsware, China Glaze or even Salt Glaze.
The Decorated Summer Plate with a pattern of openwork to outer rim with a moulded bead border, the wall of the central recess is fluted. The plate is printed and glazed with a floral summer display to its central recess. NB The handpainted version is signed by the artist
Openwork is the process where patterns are formed of oval diamond, heart shaped or other shaped holes, each of which is individually cut out with a simple metal tool and usually known as pierced ware.
