Ink Well Length 8 1/4" (21cm)
The Ink Well is based on the original dated late 18th Century, earthenware, and glazed pale cream, this is commonly described as Creamware, Pearlware, Leedsware, China Glaze or even Salt Glaze. The Ink Well is rectangular standing on four low feet the sides are shaped and pierced on each side with a pattern of openwork. The centre section holds, a sand box, an inkpot for three pens and a wafer-box.
Openwork is the process where patterns are formed of oval diamond, heart shaped or other shaped holes, each of which is individually cut out with a simple metal tool.
