The Fruit Dish is based on the original dated late 18th Century, earthenware, glazed pale cream, this is commonly described as Creamware, Pearlware, Leedsware, China Glaze or even Salt Glaze. The Fruit Dish is circular on a high spreading foot, moulded with a recessed shaped panel in the centre from which radiate ribs, with a feather border and pierced with panels of openwork. The Fruit Dish Plate shaped for the Fruit Dish the rims moulded with festoons of husks suspended from leaves between panels of openwork.
Openwork is the process where patterns are formed of oval diamond, heart shaped or other shaped holes, each of which is individually cut out with a simple metal tool and usually known as pierced ware.
