The Butter Tub is based on the original dated late 18th Century, earthenware, and glazed pale cream, this is commonly described as Creamware, Pearlware, Leedsware, China Glaze or even Salt Glaze. The Butter Tub is cylindrical with a domed lid, which has a flower knob the outer edge of the lid is pierced with a band of openwork. The Small Fruit Plate is circular with a pattern of openwork to outer rim with a moulded border.
Openwork is the process where patterns are formed of oval diamond, heart shaped or other shaped holes, each of which is individually cut out with a simple metal tool.
