Description:The Latest Addition To Hartley Greens The Wedding Bowl. Hartley Greens' range of traditional Leedsware has been enhanced by the result of a chance discovery of a piece with a past royal connection.

The team at the Stoke-on-Trent pottery were experimenting with designs for the piercing for a classically shaped but unidentified fruit bowl discovered amongst the company archive collection of master moulds. By coincidence at that time saw the publication of an important new book by John D Griffin, The Leeds Pottery 1770-1881, two handsome volumes containing photographs of most of the known marked pieces of historic Leedsware. Staff investigating the book spotted the bowl they were working on along with a an exciting caption. It seemed the bowl had also been created as a wedding gift in 1934 for the then Duke of Kent.

Using all the skills of potters long ago, the present day Hartley Greens' potters working with those same techniques and tools were able to reproduce the bowl's lace-like decoration by with the time honoured method of cutting each individual hole through the unfired clay with simple metal tools before complicated multiple firing and glazing. The beautiful finished bowl is a celebration of continuing English craftsmanship first unveiled at the 2006 Spring Fair held in the UK, a piece with a little more history attached to it than usual.
