- In the time of EDWARD the CONFESSOR, (1055- Died January 1066) THIRKIL and SIWARD were lords in Malton.
- The great Earl Siward, the eighth Earl of Northumberland and Yorkshire Earl circa 1033., who was appointed by Edward the Confessor to lead an army of 10,000 men in support of Malcolm against Macbeth, in which the later was slain, and Malcolm received the crown.
- Siward died in York in 1055.
