Most underwear companies these days put their products through rigorous testing before manufacture to ensure that they wash and handle well. However, always take time to review the garment label to view the recommended wash programmes and some delicate underwear may require specialist treatment. Underwear can be expensive so don’t make the mistake of mistreating it during the wash - proper care will prolong the life and comfort. The more underwear is washed, inevitably this affects the product life - regular machine washing may result in underwear lasting only a few months as machine washing degrades any Lycra in the fabrics which is important for support. Hand washing may help prolong this life and help maintain the shape and colour too. Any delicate laces or detail may be better suited to a hand wash. Other general washing tips include: Do not dry clean, do not bleach, do not iron, and do not tumble dry - however again, always refer to the manufacturer’s label for detail. Overall, be prepared to regularly review and replace your under garments and have pride in how you treat them.
Most swimwear garments contain Lycra and this can be damaged by prolonged content with chlorine, sun care products and also by use in Jacuzzi or saunas. Once used always rinse immediately in cold water and then wash properly in a mild detergent. Again hand washing is preferable - but refer to manufacturer guidelines. Avoid wringing, bleaching, tumble drying or ironing.
