Kneipp

Kneipp is a range of bath and body products formulated from the purest natural herbs that contain a high concentration of essential oils. Kneipp products are of an unparalleled quality which means using raw plant materials of first-class quality as the basis for all products. The live elements of Kneipp's philosophy - water, plants, exercise, diet and inner balance - are a unique complement to Kneipp's product concepts and today the brand still has a huge international cult following.

Here we give you a brief history of the creator himself....
In the 19th century Sebastian Kneipp revolutionised naturopathic medicine. This all began after he contracted Pulmonary Tuberculosis in 1846, aged 25. Three years later, as he began his studies into technology his health completely deteriorated. After reading a book about the healing powers of water he immersed himself in the freezing cold river Danube for the count of three and proceeded to run home. He continued with these short immersions two or three times a week and also prescribed himself hot baths and rinses. This was a success and his health was completely restored.

After curing himself of what was thought to be an incurable illness at the time, Kneipp began a lifetime of intensive study of the health-promoting power of water and the healing properties of certain plants. In 1852 Sebastian Kneipp was ordained as a Priest and three years later he was sent to the Dominican Monastery in Bad Worishofen, Germany. In addition to his job as priest he began to help poor and sick with his hydrotherapy treatments, which included cold rinses, water sleeping, hot and cold half and full baths, contrast baths as well as hot and cold wet packs and compresses.

In 1890 Kneipp began working with Leonhard Oberhauber at the Wurzburg apothecary, who later became a close friend. A year later Kneipp granted Oberhauber exclusive rights to produce and sell pharmaceutical, cosmetics as well as dietary products under his name. Using natural plant essences and other pure ingredients as a base, they created the formulas that still to this day constitute the basis for all of Kneipp's products.

Before his death in 1897 Sebastian Kneipp set up three foundations in Bad Worishofen, a town which is now completely devoted to the brand. Kneipp is extremely popular throughout Germany and has been a household name for many years.

Kneipp himself said. ""Nature has provided us generously with everything we need to remain in good health." Containing up to 37% essential oils, products in the Kneipp range are packed full of vitamins, ensuring they not only smell wonderful, but really work.
