AC-11 is a proprietary, patented water-soluble extract of Uncaria tomentosa, a herb that grows in the Amazon rainforest and has been used as a healing plant by the native Indians of South America for over 2,000 years. Now AC-11 is a the forefront of a new generation of supplements focused on maintaining gene health.

AC-11 helps maintain DNA health. It protects DNA against oxidation and naturally advances the repair and rebuilding of DNA damage caused by free radicals. It is thought that cells are prone to up to 10,000 oxidation attacks per day and whilst antioxidants are important in neutralising free radicals it is likely that some cellular damage will still occur. AC-11 helps to improve DNA repair enzymes that are necessary when this type of damage occurs, thereby ensuring that healthy genes are maintained.

Most Uncaria tomentosa products are simply dried, ground herbal powder, AC-11, on the other hand, is prepared according to the traditional method of hot water extraction which isolates the potent carboxy alkyl esters (CAEs), the active ingredient in the plant, without using chemical solvents of any kind. This approach has two benefits. First it eliminates the undesirable oxindole alkaloids which can cause cramping and diarrhoea, as well as the high molecular weight tannins which act as 'anti-nutrients' by forming insoluble complexes with dietary proteins. Second , it increases bioavailability because water extraction releases low-molecular weight (easily absorbable) constituents.

AC-11 has been the subject of numerous scientific studies in the field of DNA protection and repair, which cannot be claimed of other Uncaria tomentosa extracts.
