Selenium is an essential trace element of fundamental importance to human health. Selenoprecise may help to maintain healthy cardiovascular, immune and reproductive systems. It is recognized that soils in many areas of the world, including the UK, are deficient in selenium. Selenium is an essential component of the antioxidant enzyme glutathione peroxidase, which acts together with other antioxidants to protect the body from damage by free radicals. Selenium promotes a healthy immune system, important for resistance to infectious bacteria and viruses, as well as cancer cells.
It is commonly recognised that soils in many areas of the world, including the UK, are deficient in selenium, often as a result of intensive farming. Selenium carries out its main function as part of the enzyme glutathione peroxidase - an antioxidant that protects the inside of the cell against oxidative damage by free radicals.
(Free radicals are chemicals which are created by our own metabolism as well as from environmental factors such as smoking, air pollution, UV light exposure, etc.) Selenium has been used to treat a variety of disorders. Its primary use is as an antioxidant therapy for supporting the immune system, increasing resistance to bacteria and viruses, as well as cancer cells. Selenium in the natural organic form gives the greatest bio-availability (absorption) in the body. The capsules are produced under pharmaceutical control. The raw materials comply with government regulations in the EC and Scandinavia. Testing ensures that the raw materials are in accordance with their certificates of analysis.
