The extract we use is decaffeinated and contains high levels of the active compounds ‘chlorogenic acids’ and in particular, one called ‘5-caffeoylquinic acid’. These compounds contain important properties including powerful antioxidants that help fight free radical damage. The roasting process changes the chemical profile of the coffee bean and this is why we use unroasted coffee beans for our extract. Careful selection of the best raw green robusta coffee beans means we can ensure these delicate compounds are retained and that our extract contains a rich source of naturally occurring chlorogenic acids.

A recent study looking at coffee and weight compared normal coffee to coffee enriched with chlorogenic acids. The enriched coffee group lost significantly more weight than those in the normal coffee group. Another study looking at a raw green coffee extract showed that it significantly increases both weight loss and the lean muscle to fat mass ratio. This study suggests that the mechanisms of action are mainly linked to glucose metabolism: inhibition of glucose in the small intestine and limiting the release of glucose into the circulation. It is thought that limiting the amount of glucose available for energy forces the body to break down fat.
