Propolis is a pure organic substance produced by the honey bee to prevent bacterial infection in the hive. Plants such as willow, birch and poplar secrete sap with antibacterial properties. Worker bees collect this sap and mix it with their unique salivary excretions to create propolis. This is then spread over the inside of their hive, creating one of the most sterile environments known to nature. Tea tree is well known for its antiseptic and antifungal properties.
