If there is a large amount of blood in your stool you will probably notice this when you go to the toilet. However, small amounts of blood may be too small to see with the naked eye. The bowel screening test is able to detect very small amounts of blood. The test gives a simple positive or negative answer. Although it is not normal to have blood in your stool, a positive result does not mean that you have bowel cancer, as there are many other conditions which may cause bleeding in the bowel. Most causes of bleeding are not serious.
