Bone constitutes the fundamental part of our joints. For movements to be smooth and joints to be flexible there must be a layer of cushioning and lubrication between the bones. This layer is made up of a shock-absorbing tissue called cartilage and a natural fluid called synovial fluid. A healthy cartilage and synovial fluid make it possible for joints to move easily and comfortably.
With age, the cartilage covering bones in joints is degraded, resulting in limitation of movement and pain. With time the water content of the cartilage increases and the protein makeup of cartilage degenerates. Repetitive use of the joints over the years irritates and inflames the cartilage, causing joint pain and swelling. Eventually, cartilage begins to degenerate leading to complete degradation in advanced cases. What are Osteoflex® fizzy tablets for?
Glucosamine is present in relatively high concentrations in the joints and connective tissues, and is necessary for cartilage repair and maintenance. Chondroitin is a molecule that attracts water, making the cartilage compressible and shock absorbing and is also part of a large protein molecule that gives cartilage elasticity. When Glucosamine and Chondroitin are combined, the latter attracts more fluid therefore lubricating the joints and providing maximum effect. Manganese is another important mineral for healthy bones and cartilage formation, ligaments and connective tissues. Vitamin C is also important as they help reduce inflammation (especially in the shoulders, knees and elbow joints), stiffness and discomfort. Furthermore, Vitamin C plays a vital role in the formation of collagen which is important for the growth and repair of connective tissue.
