Natural Vitamin E by Natures Aid from £9.49
When vitamin E was first discovered in the early 1920’s as a factor affecting fertility in rats its importance was not appreciated. It was called the ‘sex hormone’ and almost dismissed as a serious component of our diets. These days, vitamin E is one of the most researched vitamins and according to recent work, one of the nutrients most likely to be lacking in our diet. The EU RDA (EU Recommended Daily Amount) for vitamin E is 10mg daily but many experts agree that ideal daily intake levels should be between 70 and 100mg (104 and 149i.u.) per day. In 1990 a survey of British adults revealed an average daily intake of 7.2mg for women and 9.9mg for men, thus a supplement would be required to achieve the desired levels.
Vitamin E is the body’s principal fat-soluble anti-oxidant and neutralises harmful free radicals in structures containing fats, including cell membranes and harmful cholesterol particles (LDL cholesterol) in the blood, before they can become oxidised and cause damage. Circulation health - vitamin E may thin the blood, though only a little evidence supports this, and keeps the arteries flexible. Vitamin E may reduce pain on walking (intermittent claudication). Heart disease - several studies have shown that natural, but not synthetic, vitamin E reduces the risk of heart attack, even in those who have already suffered one. Blood pressure - may thin the blood and improves arterial flexibility, either of which decreases resistance to blood flow. Immune health - a link has been demonstrated between vitamin E levels and resistance to infection, especially in the elderly. Cataracts - reducing oxidative damage to the lens tissue lowers the risk of cataract formation. Alzheimers and Age-related cognitive decline (ARCD) - protects nerve tissues and improves circulation. Elderly people with low vitamin E levels show much faster age-related decline. Healing - it can prevent thick scar formation and accelerate the healing of burns. M.S. - may slow progression, vitamin E protects the structural fatty acids of the myelin sheath.
Ingredients: d-alpha Tocopherol. Gelatin, Glycerine, Sunflower Oil.
Nutritional: Vitamin E is the major fat-soluble anti-oxidant in the body. This means that vitamin E dissolves in and protects fatty acids in cell membranes and potentially harmful blood fats (LDL cholesterol) from damage from free radicals. Other properties include immune support, possible blood thinner, anti-viral actions, protection against cholesterol deposits in blood vessels, blood clots and nerve and cell wall damage.
Directions: Swallow one capsule per day with food.
Health Warnings: High levels should be avoided by diabetics, people with thyroid disorders and should be stopped 1 month before surgery. May potentiate aspirin, though perhaps not other blood thinners
