Manuka Honey is collected from a plant that is unique to New Zealand, Leptospermum scoparium. The white flowers appear in spring and are much loved by the honey bees. Manuka flowers have a strong, aromatic fragrance and are full of the nectar which provides this dark, creamy honey. Active 5+ Manuka Honey has naturally high levels of hydrogen peroxide which has anti-bacterial properties.
The level of UMF® activity in Manuka honey varies significantly from 0 to 25+, and a special assay has been developed to measure it. Research has proved only Manuka honey with the rating of UMF® 10 and higher has reliable health properties. The higher the rating the higher the level of anti-bacterial activity in the honey.
