Heartbeet is an organic beetroot juice (not from concentrate) produced by James White Drinks in a collaboration with the members of the medical research community, professors Amrita Ahruwalia and Ben Benjamin, who are the key figures behind the research into the impact that beetroot juice has on reducing blood pressure.

Their theory is that the nitrate in beetroot juice is broken down by enzymes in your saliva to nitrate which in turn is broken down by the digestive system to create nitric oxide. Nitric oxide has been shown to thin the blood and be very effective in reducing blood pressure and indeed the initial clinical trials they did on healthy individuals showed that blood pressure reduced significantly on drinking beetroot juice and that some impact still existed up to 24 hours after consumption.

They have received additional funding from the British heart foundation to carry out further clinical trials and will be publishing further findings over the next few years. It is all very exciting. Heartbeet is at the forefront of promoting these important new findings. A small amount of fresh apple juice is added to smooth the slightly earthy after taste that beetroot has, but the beetroot juice is delicious. It should be noted that the consumption of beetroot juice can turn urine pink. This is normal.
