The screening test should detect the presence of urine glucose (sugar) in freshly voided urine. The abnormal levels of sugar will react with the test pad on the test strip, producing chemical reaction involving a dye resulting in the test pad changing colour. To achieve the most accurate and meaningful results, the test should be carried out on a fresh sample of urine at least two hours after your last meal. If you are unsure about the result obtained with the first test strip a second strip is provided so the test can be repeated 24 hours later.
