Berberis Fresh Herb Extract. Berberis contains an alkaloid, berberine, which is also found in goldenseal.

Berberis vulgaris (Barberry) is a shrub commonly found in Alpine woods native to Europe. It is a perennial shrub with a yellow bark to the branching root. The smooth leaves cluster along the stem and it has small yellow flowers that ripen into red berries. Bioforce uses the leaves and the berries. Berberis contains an alkaloid, berberine, which is also found in goldenseal. Berberis' activities are thought to be due to its isoquinoline alkaloids which include berberine and oxycanthine. It also contains chelidonic acid, resin and tannins. Many of the alkaloids are antibacterial. It is a bitter tonic.

This preparation contains the tincture of Berberis vulgaris leaves and berries.
