A dietary supplement which may help to maintain healthy bones teeth. A combination supplement containing calcium, vitamin D3 and K which both promote the absorption of calcium. Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the human body, comprising over 1.5% of the total body weight. About 99% of the body’s calcium is found in the bones, with 1% occurring in the blood and other body tissues. An adult may only get 50% of the calcium needed from the diet each day. If there is not enough calcium consumed daily, the body will take it from the bones to help perform vital functions, which means that the supply in our bones can become depleted. Vitamin K stimulates the formation of bone tissue, Vitamin D3 is required for the absorption of calcium.
Calcium supplements are available in a variety of chemical forms. The most common are calcium carbonate, calcium citrate, calcium gluconate and calcium phosphate. The elemental calcium (optimal level) provided varies with each chemical form used. Calcium carbonate, used in Bio-Calcium+D3+K provides 40% elemental calcium whereas calcium gluconate provides only 9%. The lower the elemental content the more tablets needed to meet requirements. Bio-Calcium also contains vitamins D and K, which both promote the absorption of calcium. This has been shown in numerous recent studies. Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is the most absorbable form of vitamin D. The capsules are produced under pharmaceutical control. The raw materials comply with government regulations in the EC and Scandinavia. Testing ensures that the raw materials are in accordance with their certificates of analysis.

Nutritional: Each tablet contains 500mg of calcium in an easily absorbable form with a high percentage of elemental calcium, together with 5mcg of vitamin D3 and 35mcg of Vitamin K.
Directions: Pharma Nord recommends an intake of 1-2 tablets per day of Bio-Calcium+D3+K.
Health Warnings: A daily intake as high as 2500mg appears to be safe with no reported adverse effects. Higher intakes may result in gastro-intestinal disturbance, interfere with the absorption of zinc, magnesium and iron and may lead to formation of kidney stones in susceptible people. People with thyroid or kidney disease should take calcium supplements with caution. Calcium supplements may interfere with the action of the calcium blocking drug Verapamil. Pregnant or lactating women and those on medication should consult a doctor before taking nutritional supplements. Discontinue use if adverse reactions occur.
